This is good news You can now legally jailbreak your iPhone and install other programs. Apple has tried to prevent the full use of your iPhone and keep you tied to AT&T, but it is now legal to make your iPhone work for you, not just for Apple and AT&T.

Before this ruling, it was questionably legal to install "non-approved" applications on your iPhone. There were applications out there that allowed you to tether your computer to your iPhone and use your phone as a data modem. I never got around to trying it, but for those who did, it was a life saver and it saved you a ton of money by allowing you to actually use your cell phone for a very useful task. But, Apple and AT&T didn't make money on your doing it because they wanted to sell you a USB modem for your laptop also. It was a rip off.

So people applied a "jailbreak" to their phone, altering the operating system that allowed them to use aftermarket software. It is now legal.
