"Government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a sort of advance auction in stolen goods."

-- H.L. Mencken

Welcome to Hoptown Hall

HopTown Hall is a meeting place for discussion of political and current news events of concern to Western Kentucky. We offer you this forum so that your voice may be heard unfiltered by media outlets and straight from the source. We hope you enjoy the site.

How We Got Here

Hoptown Hall was created in an effort to promote political discussion and inspire participation in the local, state, and national political arenas. We went live on the web in early October, 2004. Initially the site was very different from its current form. Not firmly understanding what would prove most popular, we put up the initial site that consisted of opinion articles, articles of regional interest, regional photography, the webcam, and, of course, the forum. After a few months of carefully analyzing site traffic, it became obvious that the Hoptown Hall Forum was the central point of interest on the website. The Ferrell's Webcam proved equally popular. We have now modified the site to feature these points of interest.

Equally important to the success of the site was the level of discourse on the forum. This is a monitored forum and the forum moderators made posting expectations known from the onset. Forum participants are expected to keep the discussion above board and on issues. No opinion is disallowed, but the level of civility is expected to remain high. Mindless diatribes, baseless namecalling, and troll-like posts are not allowed. Because of this, posters are allowed to focus on issues and opinions, not personalities. The overall level of discourse is now one of diverse opinions discussed in a sometimes intense, but always civil atmosphere. Our forum members make this site interesting and get great credit for making it a success.

We invite you to browse through the forum. The discussion categories range from local, state and national issues, education, to computer and technical issues, to sports and cooking. There is something for everyone. In order to post you will have to join the forum with a legitimate email address, which is never shared and is only used by the forum administrator for rare correspondence. So dive right in and enjoy the site.
